Brighton's Creative Community Meetup

17 July 2024

This week, the creative community in Brighton came together for a follow-up to last months launch of Creatives for Climate Brighton. Strategists, sustainability consultants, business directors & coaches, creative directors, writers, students and crew shared their ideas and thoughts with passion and determination to drive meaningful change towards a purpose-led economy.

Locate’s founder, Angus Light, kicked off by sharing insights from the recently released ground-breaking report by the Purpose Disruptors: Towards Reimagining Advertising. Serving as a necessary portal into the future, the report demonstrates what a different future for all parts of the advertising ecosystem could look like. Highlighting the significant impact of advertising, the report found that in 2022, advertising in the UK contributed to 32% of the carbon footprint of every individual in the country.

Introducing a Creative Work Showcase to the event format, Sophie Broadbent, Account Manager at AdGreen, shared creative examples of why we are doing this, how we can be fun and creative along with wider social action.

Local purpose-led organisations were invited to shared their stories and presented briefs. We heard from strategist Rob Alcroft from Wayforward Brighton who shared the Sussex Bay funding

project, aimed at achieving nature restoration at scale along 100 miles of the Sussex Coast.

Jo Godden, CEO of sustainable swimwear brand RubyMoon, introduced a ground-breaking design for real circularity with a new low-impact fabric that has lifelong recycling capabilities. Gerry Maguire Thompson, author of Rewilding an Urban Garden, read an extract from his book about connecting to nature and bringing wildlife back.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening a success. We look forward to seeing you at the next gathering as we continue this important conversation and turn our discussions into action.
